The tutorial still doesn’t fully explain progression, so here’s a clear breakdown of how i understand it to currently works.

Press Shift + C to open your Character Sheet.

  • Incarnation = your current shell (the one doing actions)

  • Self = your persistent core (The Substrate - the Nervous System tthat froms a Neural substrate)

Gaining XP & Creating Memories

You gain XP by performing actions (mining, combat, travel, repair, etc).

  • The more developed you are in a field, the less XP you gain per action

  • To create a Memory, you must reach specific level thresholds

Important:

  • Memories are formed using the two most-used skills while leveling (or the 2 most xp awared during that lvl)

  • Memories will always have two stats (never 3 or 4)

Higher level thresholds = stronger Memories i.e More stats

XP doubles per level:

Key Takeaways

  • XP becomes insane past ~10 Memories

  • 20+ is effectively endgame scaling

  • Every +1 Memory = double the grind

The Self

  • Holds up to 27 Memories

  • Does not generate Memories

  • Stores Memories passed up from Incarnations via Ascension

  • Creates Crowns

Memories:

  • Act like flexible “levels” with stat bonuses

  • Early Memories are weaker (+0 / +1 common) But are easyer to obtain (lower xp requirement)

  • Later Memories scale higher (no known cap) but have a higher XP requirement

Each Memory takes 1 slot, regardless of strength
→ Stronger Memories are always better space efficiency

The Incarnation/Shell

  • Holds up to 27 Memories

  • Generates Memories through actions

  • Can Ascend Sends their Memories to the Self

  • Shells can be made with diffrent properties

⚠️ Ascension destroys the current shell
⚠️ If the Incarnation/Shell dies, all of its Memories are lost and any Crown worn is also destroyed

Crowns

  • Created by the Self using stored Memories

  • Produced every 30 minutes

  • Go into inventory (can be equipped or traded)

Rules:

  • Max 27 Memories per Crown

  • Creating a Crown does NOT delete previous ones

  • Crowns can be replaced by equipping a different one

Downside:

  • XP gain is scaled by total Memory count (Incarnation + Crown)

Example:
If your Incarnation has 0 Memories but equips a Crown with 7 →
You gain XP as if you are already at level 7

Crown Optimization Trick

  • Deleting unwanted Memories from a worn Crown reduces total Memory count

  • This lowers XP scaling → faster leveling

→ Remove irrelevant stats for the activity you are training

Memory Strategy

  • No benefit to keeping weaker Memories over stronger ones
(unless you need space before reaching cap)

  • Replace low-value Memories once near or at 27 cap

  • Early Memories are usually temporary (+0 / +1)

  • Higher level Memories = better stat rolls

  • To target stats:
    → Perform the related activity
→ Push to higher levels before generating the Memory

Ascension Strategy

Ascend when:

  • Near or at Memory cap

  • You want to secure progress before risk

  • You are changing activities/playstyle

⚠️ Farming on a low-memory / no-crown Incarnation is more efficient for XP gain early on

Deletion Rules

Self:

  • Permanent loss

Incarnation:

  • Local deletion only (shell or Crown)

Important:

  • Deleting weak Memories can improve efficiency

  • Keeping weak Memories too long may slow progression

Key Mechanics Confirmed

  • No known cap on Memory strength (above +7 exists)

  • Crown + Incarnation Memories stack beyond 27

  • XP scaling is based on total active Memories

  • Memories always roll 2 stats only

Summary

  • Perform actions → Gain XP

  • Reach thresholds → Create Memories

  • Stronger Memories come from higher levels

  • Replace weak Memories near cap

  • Ascend before losing progress

  • Use Crowns carefully (they slow leveling)

  • Optimize by reducing total Memory count when farming

Core Skills – Quick Reference

These are the actions you perform to gain XP and generate Memories.
The more you use a skill, the more it influences the Memories you create.
Numbers per lvl are wrong need to fix when i work it out

Logical – Mining

  • +2% Mining Output per level

  • +1% Shield Regeneration per level

How to level: Mining resources

Use:
Best for increasing yield and improving passive survivability while mining.

Reactive – Travel & Movement

  • +2% Warp Speed per level

  • +1% Afterburner Velocity per level

How to level: Warping and general movement

Use:
Reduces travel time and improves mobility in-system.

Adaptive – Repairs & Jumping

  • +1% Hull & Armor Repair per level

  • Heat Capacity bonus (better heat tolerance / jump range)

How to level: Repairing Structure (Hull)

Use:
Stronger repairs and improved star-jump capability.
Useful for armor tanking and long-distance travel.

Sensory – Combat

  • +2% Tracking per level

  • Rate of Fire bonus (all weapons, including cutters)

How to level: Shooting targets

Use:
Improves accuracy vs moving targets and increases overall DPS.
